July 5 Canoe Excursion. Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC). Paddle along the shores of Muddy Creek and the Rhode River to learn about one of the many tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay. This trip is designed for beginning and intermediate paddlers. Basic instruction will be given at the start of the program. July 16 Trail Trekkers: Three Part Series-Part Two: Bird Watching Basics. Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC). Join us for this fun outdoor series which will be an introduction to discovering life on forest trails. Suggested for ages 8 to adult. Bird Watching Basics: In this second of the series we'll learn how to use binoculars properly, how to search for birds, and use field guides. Bring binoculars if you have them, a limited number are available to borrow. Cost is $20 per person or $30 per couple and includes three programs (in the 3 part series) and a magnifying glass for the trail. Pre-registration is required by calling (301) 238.2737.
